We will discuss about 5 essential accessories and its applications with microphone while recording in this topic. These are must-have accessories if your studio follows recording direction.
1. Pop Filter
This is a very thin veil put in front of microphone. Purpose is for filtering /p/, /sh/, /t/ when you sing before microphone. These tones produce somewhat pop sound which is very hard to be processed after recording.
Some microphones integrate with pop filter inside it such as microphone used for singing live on stage.
Have the same function as pop filter and it is mainly used for outside recording. This veil will prevent sound produces from wind.
3. Mic Stand
Its function is simple, be a standing mount for microphone when recording singing or musical instruments. The more solid, heavier mic stand is, the safer for you microphone. Besides, it reduces your impacts to microphone when recording.
4. Sock Mount
The shock is protecting device for your microphone. It is usually followed with middle and high-grade microphone. Some low-grade microphone producers even include it when you buy microphone.
Assuming you put microphone to sock mount. Then sock mount to mic stand. It doesn’t affect your microphone and recording sound even if you accidentally interact heavily with mic stand or make small vibration to it. That’s because sock mount weakens and prevents this vibration from directly delivering to microphone.
5. Reflection Filter/Portable Vocal Booth
It’s just one piece of metal like below with soundproof material on it. When we put it before microphone and sing, our sound after being passed through that metal veil, is absorbed, weakened and diffused into weaker sounds before they reach other surfaces in room and reflect to microphone.
Portable vocal booth is very useful if you can’t afford one singing recording cabin, of course it can’t be compared to a private cabin but better have than nothing!
